Collier's
Magazine; October 1, 1954; Cave of the Star, in Mexico; The
climber is Ray de Saussure, a well-known California cave explorer. Inside
the issue is a 6-page article illustrated with 9 photographs (6 in color).
The article is about their trip to the cave, written by one of the participants.
Dr. J Harlen Bretz, a principal cave scientist, was also on the trip. A
very collectible issue. There is some wear (especially at the corners),

| Poland Speleology Club Christmas and New Year real photo greeting card issued by the Klub Wysokogorski of Krakow, Poland. This evidently was the Commission of Speleology of the Polish Mountaineering Club. The photograph seems to show a cave explorer descending a wire ladder, while on belay from above. Printed on glossy photo paper. Two pages, but the fold is almost separated. Does not effect the image. Probably in the 1950s, based on other similar material we obtained. Carlsbad
Caverns New Mexico real photo postcard. It shows a tour group posing
in front of some of the spectacular formations in the big room. Has some
corner/edge wear, and creases; stain on back. Postally unused, undivided

Note that these early 1940's
issues were more like "notices", or mailings to members. They were not cataloged
as NSS News at the time but nevertheless were the forerunners of the News. All
